In MS Word, why does cursor alway open in middle of page?

Every time I open MSWord the cursor opens in the middle of the page. I have
set the page for standard layout, but cursor always starts in the middle of
the page.

Presumably because you have the vertical alignment (page setup) set to
something other than top?

On the Layout tab of Page Setup, make sure that "Vertical alignment" is set
to Top and not Center.
