in office my spell check keeps turning itself off

I have a laptop with office 2003 preloaded. Since the beginning it has
defaulted the spell check off in the set language window and when i check it
off it will start to work but then on it's own goes back to the off mode.
Can't figure why it's doing this. Anyone?

This is a per document option and it sounds like it has been turned
off in your Normal.dot. Create a blank document, turn it on again, but
click the "Default" command at the bottom of the dialog before
selecting OK.
