In PowerPoint 2003, mouse click shows all animated objects at once

In PowerPoint 2000, I commonly set up presentations using custom animation on
several objects on each slide, and set the timing so that each object would
appear a few seconds after the previous one. When running the slide show, if
I wanted to speed the appearance of these objects, clicking the mouse would
cause the next object in sequence to appear immediately. One click caused one
object to appear.

In PowerPoint 2003, opening a 2000 presentation set up as described above
behaves differently. When the mouse is clicked, instead of only the next
object appearing, ALL the custom animation objects appear.

Can anyone tell me how to make PowerPoint 2003 treat mouse clicks the same
as 2000 for timed custom animation objects?

I don't think you can. Well, maybe. Try going to Tools/Options/Edit and
turning off the new animations. That should make the file work as if it's in
2000.

Thanks, but I tried that already. Doing that gave me the old Custom Animation
dialog box from 2000, but the results are the same.

But with the old dialog box, I set up the timings as I wanted, saved the
spreadsheet, and opened it with PowerPoint 2000. It worked the way as I
intended, where each mouse click revealed only one item. In 2003, with the
very same presentation, one mouse click revealed all the items.

This is a fairly substantial change in functionality, and one I was
surprised to see.
