In Test Account login, how get 2008 to see current identity? TestAcct vs. Safe Boot?

1. If I log into the Test Account I created in the System folder and then
launch Entourage, the setup assistant wants to import an Office 2004
identity rather than give me an option to use the current identity created
with Office 2008. Your counsel, please?

2. If there are no problems in running Office 2008 component applications
when in Safe Boot startup mode, how would re-booting into Normal startup
mode and logging into Test Account help in isolating/diagnosing problem
causes?

Move your 2008 Identity from your Main Identity to Shared. Log into your
test Identity. Drag the 2008 Identity to your Microsoft User Data folder in
Documents. (It actually copies it so no chance of messing things up). Just
don't forget to move it back when you go back to your Main Identity.

Permissions are different, new test user will not use the startup items.
It's a totally clean environment. If a blank Identity does not work, it
tells you the problem is system wide. If it does work, then you test your
original Identity as described above. If the old Identity works in the new
User then it's not your Identity, it's your User's folder.

Once you know where the problem is located, you can usually find a solution.

Thanks, Diane, I'm having senior moments as I keep re-reading and pondering
and must ask for more interpretation, please:

1. I'm confused with the phrase: "Identity from your Main Identity".

2. "Move" to Shared--so, for the timebeing, then, your normal Documents/MUD
folder would not contain a Main Identity during the Test Account login time
and operation of Entourage, would it remain empty?

3. Do you do that while logged into your normal account? Will the setup
assistant dialogue appear?

4. When you say "log in to your test Identity," do you mean test Account?

5. You're dragging it back into the identical MUD folder from which you
moved it? I'm confused on why it would be dragged out in the first place.

6. Do any changes in Entourage mail, tasks, notes, etc. become part of the
Main Identity's Database while you are logged into the Test Account and then
stay in in the database when you move it back into the MUD folder?

You can always select "No".
That should be Test User.

Drag to Shared folder.

1. I'm confused with the phrase: "Identity from your Main Identity".

In Microsoft User Data folder --> Office 2008 Identities folder --> Main
Identity.

Rereading what I wrote I can see the confusion. My excuse is I was tired and
wasn't on the top of my game. Just keeping up with the newsgroup questions
is taking hours every day. Then I have the Entourage Help Page and Blog to
administer.
2. "Move" to Shared--so, for the timebeing, then, your normal Documents/MUD
folder would not contain a Main Identity during the Test Account login time
and operation of Entourage, would it remain empty?

Yes, but you are in another user so that's not a problem. You can set
Entourage to work offline.
3. Do you do that while logged into your normal account? Will the setup
assistant dialogue appear?

I use fast user switching all of the time. Entourage is already installed,
so the setup assistant isn't activated. It will launch in the new test User
and install preferences for that User.
4. When you say "log in to your test Identity," do you mean test Account?

I did mean test user. To be doubly clear, Entourage creates Identities, the
OS creates Users. In Entourage you can have multiple accounts in an
Identity. No wonder we're confused. ; )
5. You're dragging it back into the identical MUD folder from which you
moved it? I'm confused on why it would be dragged out in the first place.

You need access to it in the new User so you can test your current Identity.
6. Do any changes in Entourage mail, tasks, notes, etc. become part of the
Main Identity's Database while you are logged into the Test Account and then
stay in in the database when you move it back into the MUD folder?
No, it's copied to the new User's Document folder from Shared. However, when
you drag it back to your regular User, it's moved because that was it's
original location.

Whew! I hope I got this right this time. It's the end of the day for me and
guess what? I'm tired. :)

Diane, for the benefit of others who may try to understand this post with

"Troubleshooting Entourage in a New User Account" fully applicable to the
Leopard OS and Office 2008?

Yes with the exception if Leopard preferences are munged due to the way it
was installed and data migrated over.
