If you don't have at least 1 GB of memory, then spelling and grammar are
turned off by default. You can turn them on, but performance will be slow
(Office button > Word Options > Proofing).
I've no idea how your language got set to Yoruba. I don't even know what
Yoruba looks like. Word does automatically try to detect the language, but I
would think that whatever you typed would have to be very odd for it to be
mistaken as Yoruba. Yoruba (Nigeria) is also the last entry in the language
list. So, it might have gotten set by mistake.
If it was set as the default, have you reset the default language to English
(US), assuming that's what you want? Right-click the status bar and make
sure Language is checked. Then, on the status bar, double-click the current
language. In the Language dialog, set it to the desired language, then click
Default. Confirm by clicking Yes.
With the language set to English (or your desired language), if you
deliberately misspell something and press F7, does the spell checker catch
the error, or does it tell you that the spell check is complete?
Note: if you respond to this, please don't change the subject; otherwise, I
(and others) might not see your response or connect it with the original
question. I noticed two other messages with similar, but not identical,
message subject lines. Hence, they aren't grouped together with your
original reply.
