In Word, a maximized window only fills half the screen

My boss opened Word. When she did, the screen is maximized, but it is as if
you grabbed the bar at the top and moved the window half way down the screen.
I have double clicked the on the bar at the top, right clicked on the task
bar at the bottom and chose Maximize, I have even tried to resize it. But
every time I choose to maximize, instead of it maximizing, the top of the
screen shows her desktop, the bottom half is the Word Window.

I'm experiencing the same problem. The maximize button doesn't work. Seems
like this occurred after we downloaded the latest updates to Windows XP
