How can I recover my Work. In word2007 when you highlight text and click on
insert index it deleted the text. I've tried all the reasonable things like
undo, searching temp, backup files, all files for today etc and cannot locate
it.

This is the second time I have got caught on this. What is wrong with WORD?
How can I recover it???

Nothing is wrong with Word. This is a Word user issue. The Word user
should not highlight text before inserting the index. The Word user
should just click once where the user wants the index to appear, and
insert the index.

Great. Thanks for the obvious. This is not the question. There is a problem
with WORD. I doubt Word was designed to delete all of a Users work by simply
performing an incorrect but generic function.

Is there any one out that that can assist with the question raised on
recovering the missing text pages please?

Don't have Word 07 on this computer but works with Word 03.
Did you immediately after clicking on Insert Index and
losing the information on the screen, use the undo function?
This worked the way it should in '03. Once you save or exit
the undo won't work.

BTW, just looked at my copy of Word 07 on home computer and the Ctrl+Z or
undelete works here also. Word is not in error as anything you type or do
on highlighted text is defaulted to erase (replace) the highlighted text.
