In Word X for Mac clock rather than cursor stays on

When I am in a document in Word X for Mac, the clock rather than the cursor
stays on. This is true for small documents that I have just opened.

You need to post in a Mac-specific ng, if the question involves something
going wrong with Word rather than just how to manipulate it.
