Inability to open and run office apps.

Hi:

I just got my computer back after it had its hard drive formatted and
windows XP reinstalled, and am in the process of trying to reinstall
all all my software including Office 2000.

I installed Office 2000 a couple of days ago, and it worked fine, as
did Access.

Once things were set I felt I didn't like the name I had been given,
and changed it (just the name). I still have administrator rights
(according to the notation by my name), but am getting a message from
Office that "Application must be installed to be run. Install it using
setup from the location where you originally installed the
application". I uninstalled and reinstalled office, but to no avail. I
have also tried to change some of the startup applications, and have
been told I don't have access to the registry.

I appear to have lost the ability to update the registry (a serious
issue)), but no one seems to know how I can get it back. I have
changed my name back to the name that was originally used, but even
that doesn't work.

I am stuck..

I am not a tech type, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

John Baker

When you installed Office 2000, did you select any components to be
installed "on first use" or "run from CD"? If so, you should re-run
the Office setup.exe and select all options to be "run from my
computer". You should do the install while running with admin
privileges.
I appear to have lost the ability to update the registry

I suppose that's possible, but I doubt it.
