Include time zone in time stamp?

Is it possible to include the time zone abbreviation in the time stamp?

If I send a message to a coworker in the Central Time zone and she replies,
then my original message down in the thread shows as having been sent an hour
earlier (her timezone), but without the timezone reference.

AFAIK, no, there is no way to add the TZ to the reply header.
