Included filesin hyperlink dialog

In FP 2003, the hyperlink dialog box also lists all included files that are
currently in use. Does that serve any purpose? I hardly use any included
files, but it's a small dialog box, so those few extra files create a
clutter. And how often does one link to the included files anyway? Or am I
missing something?

The hyperlink dialogue has no way of knowing that a file is used as an
include, or otherwise.
I frequently link to files that are also included in other files - these
are printable versions of a page (without navigation, etc.)

W

Wally S

Thanks, Ron.

I don't remember it being like this in earlier versions. Previously, at the
top of the hyperlink dialog box, you would see all the files that were
currently open, but not the files that were open simply by being included.
It was more convenient, or at least for me... but maybe not for everyone.

I hadn't noticed that before, and you're right, FP did not display included
files that way in earlier versions (unless they were also open for
editing). I thought you meant Included files that were not open for
editing in your original post, which would be shown below the folder list
(when there are any folders to list.)

I have just found that if you put your include files in the _borders
folder, they do not show up in the hyperlinks dialogue.

Thanks again, Ron.

I don't use borders, but I will try creating a _borders folder and see what
happens.

I tried creating a _borders folder, but it's a hidden folder, and I can't
see it, much less put things in it.

Doesn't have to be a _borders folder, just any _hidden folder (say _includes)
- normally include pages are put in _hidden folders so other FP components don't see them (like the FP search or TOC, etc)
- since shared borders are special include pages that's why FP puts them in a _borders folder

Stefan,
This only seems to work with the _borders folder. If the includes are in a
folder named, say, _includes, they are still shown as open files in the
hyperlinks dialogue (on my installation, anyway)

You're right
- that is a change in FP2003 I hadn't noticed before
(very few of my FP2003 sites use now use include pages since they are not fully supported by Interactive Buttons and DWT's)

It has to be _borders. I tried _includes, but it did not work.

Thanks a lot. It's a pleasure to work with a nice uncluttered hyperlink
dialog.

actually I think that is the list of OPEN files in the current web. It's just a
quicker way of linking to files you might have open at the time. (at least FP
2002 is that way.) What you do you mean "included" files.?

W

Wally S

In FP 2003, the hyperlink dialog list shows not only open files but any
files that are included in the open files, so you get a cluttered list. The
_borders fix works.
