incompatibility of Publisher 2003 with other systems

I create electronic newsletters for a non-profit. They contain text, pictures
and graphics. When I distribute them via email "AS THE message" (as opposed
to an attachment), only about half the distribution list can view the
newsletter--i.e., it either opens on their end immediately upon clicking on
the email--or they see it as a jpg attachment. However, the rest of the
distribution list receives an email from me, but when they click on it--there
is NOTHING there--nothing on the screen, no attachment. I was told that I
had to buy Acrobat 7.0 so that I could convert the Publisher 2003 file to a
PDF file before sending it, but that software is $300. It seems ridiculous
that I paid $300 for Publisher and half the world can't receive the
electronic newsletters that I purchased it design. Also, the Publisher web
files are SO big that web site managers can't accept them from me unless they
too are converted to PDF. Is there anything else that you can think of that
I can do to the newsletter (I can create it in either Web or print format) so
that it is universally compatible? I am very disappointed in Publisher 2003
due to my inability to convert it to a universally readable format and still
retain the graphics/pictures. Thank you.

This is a frequently asked question.
Download and use the FREE software at
http://www.primopdf.com/
to simply convert your publisher file to a pdf. The recipients will
need the Adobe Acrobat Reader (again free from
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html ) installed to
view the files.

It does, as Publisher 2003 only costs $150.

Read Paul's post.

For web topics, see the .webdesign newsgroup.

Publisher is designed primarily for creating print publications; the ability
to convert to web pages and send a page of a publication as an email is a
secondary feature of the program.

And $99 in the U.S. with rebate.

If he was in the US, yes, he's an idiot because he's paid twice what
he should have done. However, if he happened to live in Barbados,
then $300 is the correct price, as there are 2 Bahajan dollars to the
US$

True, true. However, I don't think Adobe Acrobat is available for Local$300
in anywhere but the USA.

If there were 2 Bahajan dollars to the US$, then someone in Barbados would
most likely pay far more than 300 Bahajan$ for Publisher. Look at the price
of Publisher in the UK!

MS Publisher 2003, French or English version, in Canada (Staples) is $249
not including taxes.. $287 with taxes.. if the OP lives in Canada, I guess
the store took an extra $13 towards the lunchtime 'banana' allocation for
staff members..

Upgrade is $100 less..

Aha, in that case it does appear to be that the OP is Canadian, as Adobe
Acrobat Standard is $299 in Canada.

Still Acrobat isn't the only way to generate PDF...

Actually, even when you set your location to Canada, Adobe store still gives
you the price in US$.
Acrobat Standard is US$299.

Ed & others who replied--I apologize for my exaggerated $300 cost of Publisher 2003--I had just looked up the cost of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 on-line and THAT was $300. I DID get my Publisher for $150. As a non-technical person, I wanted to stick with Microsoft because I am so familiar with the software and the learning curve was a "gentle" one. After I sent the post, I did more research on this site and saw an earlier communication regarding Primopdf. I promptly downloaded it and did my newsletter conversion. I cannot thank you enough for this information--I can now use my $300 savings to donate to my PAWS cause--abandoned companion animals. Thanks again and I'm happy to have found this site of knowledgeable users! Sue
