inconsistent resource reporting

I'm looking at resource availability from a numbers of angles for
"Gallina". When I do the following:
in Project Web Access, choose resources, search for the name, click on
the graph icon "view resource availability", I get a true summary
of her availability.
Similarly, when I do View Resource Assignments (from nav bar on the
left), search for the name,
I get a listing showing the projects she's working on.

However, when I go to Project Manager, open enterprise resources,
search for the name, then choose view, resource graph: NO work is
showing for the same time period.

Appreciate getting steered back onto the right track!

Thanks

You do not see assignment information in the Enterprise Resource Pool,
assuming that is what you are trying to do in Microsoft Project
Professional. Instead, you would need to open all projects to which a
resource is assigned to see the information in Project Professional. Hope
this helps.

An interesting start. I'm still missing something. I opened up all
projects that the resource has time in from PWA. Then in one of the
projects I opened enterprise global resource pool; I pulled up my
staffer's name and looked at the resource graph. Still no activity.

I simply don't understand what you are saying, especially since you continue
to say you are opening the Enterprise Resource Pool. You don't need to open
the pool. Simply open an enterprise project and then apply the Resource
Usage view. You will see each resource's work in the active project plus a
single line representing the work for each other project to which the
resource is assigned. Hope this helps.

Okay, now I see this. I happened to notice that if I had two of her
projects open at the same time, her tasks were listed without being
identified as to which project they belonged to!

Also, I was wondering how I could filter to see (and therefore print)
only her lines. I tried to do a filter by going into view, other
views, resource usage and filtering by ID but couldn't figure out what
the "ID" was, nothing worked. Also wondering how to limit the date
range.

Thanks so much for your help Dale.

To filter for only one resource in the Resource Usage view requires this
little trick:

1. Apply the Resource Usage view
2. On the Formatting toolbar, click the AutoFilter button (toward the right
end of the toolbar)
3. Click the AutoFilter pick list button in the header of the Resource Name
column
4. Select the name of the resource in question

The software displays ONLY the name of the resource but with no assignments.

5. Click the Expand/Collapse symbol to the left of the resource name TWO
TIMES.

The software should now show the resource plus the assignments. When you
print the information, set the date range in the Print dialog (the option is
in the lower left corner of the dialog). Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale, this has launched me into a whole exploration of Project!

You do this for a living or do you donate all this hours to us
know-nothings?

Thank you for your kind words! :) I work full-time as a Project Server
trainer and consultant, and answer newsgroup questions for fun. Thanks for
asking.

You are hardly a know-nothing, however. You don't give yourself enough
credit for what you already know. The trick I shared with you in my last
post is a trick that I discovered along the way. No one discovers all these
tricks overnight. So, add the trick to your kit bag and have fun! :)

One more question and I hope this is it for now: I did the date range
when printing the usage chart and that worked, although it extended the
date range to fill the 2nd sheet of paper.

Also, when I print a gannt chart and ask for a range it always prints
the entire project. Wonder what I'm missing.

Thanks,
Naomi

When you print a selected date range, the software must fill out a printed
page completely, which is why it does so for the Task Usage or Resource
Usage view. Are you setting the page range option for the Gantt Chart view?
You must do so for each View you want to print, as the date range is
included as a part of the View. Let us know.

I believe you need to open those other projects shown as single lines in the
Resource Usage view of the current project, and then the Actual Work will
calculate correctly for the other projects. Hope this helps.
