Incorrect Unread Messages Count

Have Exchange 2000 SP3 and Outlook XP SP2.
One of our users has a problem when she reads all
the messages in another user's mailbox to which she
has editor's right the count is still not at zero. So basically
even after all the messages are read the counter is still not
at 0. There are no rules setup and view is set to show all messages.
I know that it could be SP issues on Excange and Office not having
the latest SP installed. But what else can I try to recitfy the problem.

thank you very much

Does the counter go down as she marks them read or does it start at X and
finish at X regardless of how many messages she reads?

I sometimes have this error if communication between the exchange server and
the client's computer goes wrong, or a user does several actions...
I've not found the reason yet, but suppose that the exchange still thinks
there are unread mails in the folder, although the user doesn't see them.

A solution/workaround for this problem is to ask the unfortunate user to
right-click the folder and than "Mark all as read". The count goes down to 0
and the problem apparently disappears.

If not the reason/origin, this works for the user!

kind regards

David

it always displays at least 5 unread even there are no messages being
displayed in
the inbox at all using show all messages filter.

of course if it show 6 unread then one unread would be shown in the inbox.
After she reads it the counter goes down to 5.

also just found out today that our exchange server is completely patched up.

Do you also have all of the Outlook XP patches and hotfixes installed?

You might try creating a new profile for the user and see if that fixes the
problem.
