Increased file size in 2007

It seems like the files produced by Onenote 2007 are much larger than the
files produced by Onenote 2003 with similar content. At the rate that my
note file for a single summer class is growing at, it will be several times
larger than all of the notes I took for all my classes last semester. I
don't have any audio files or image files, just handwritten notes with
pressure sensitivity disabled. Are there some new settings in 2007 that are
on by default that increase file size? Or are the files in 2007 simply
larger than before? Or is there additional beta information stored in the
files?

Hi George,

Pretty much nothing is known about the ON 2007 file format outside of
MS. The only technical information I have seen so far about it seems to
indicate that it represents a page as a mathematical graph, with
everything on there as nodes...
I'd speculate the following though: I don't recall seeing time and
datestamps for items in ON 2003, which makes me believe these are new in
2007. Having a time & date-stamps is a necessity for implementing a fast
synchronization mechanism, so it makes sense that 2007 has it. Having
said that, if you need to store that information with every item, you
obviously end up with a lot of data. It could be the case that your
handwriting is recognized as many, many individual items (maybe because
it is interpreted as graphic and not as actual handwriting. You can
force ON to always treat ink as handwriting) and hence each item might
have a date/timestamp. That certainly would increase storage space.

It is clear though that the ON team doesn't worry about file size or
used storage space at all. Storage space is cheap nowadays and by the
time 2007 ships, the default hard drive size in computers (incl.
tablets) will be rather large. Therefore the ON team put emphasis on
features, performance and stability, and made those possible by using
more storage space.

[WHY?]

for me I'm using it for 3 classes now and except for a 200mb pdf, my files
with Pics are only about 90mb after 2 weeks.
