Increasingly long save times in FP2003

Hi all...

Starting to get worried about how long it's taking
to save a webpage when I choose File>Save.

Sometimes it takes ~30 seconds for a file that's
perhaps 1K in text; this is slowing me down,
because I'm checking the results of my work
in DHTML by opening the page in IE, rather
than in Preview mode of FP.

Hi MV Smith,

When was the last time you deleted temp files?

Tools | Site Settings (FP3) | Advanced | Delete Temp Files

Also clear the browser cache files

Hi...

Thanks--I had deleted cache files (IE>Internet Properties>General tab>Delete
Files)
already, but hadn't cleared temp files in FP2003.

Did a little test:
-- took a page (1744 bytes long, containing two external CSS links and
one IMG)
-- added a space character and then deleted it; the "file dirty"
asterisk appears
on the page's tab in FP.
-- clicked the Save button and measured the time it took for the
asterisk
to go away.

Before clearing FP temp files, save took 31sec.
After clearing, save took 15sec.
This still seems like a long time, but then FP is probably checking the
file's
connections to everything else on my hard drive. 8)

Incidentally, after sending my original post, thought it would be
useful to provide stats on the size of the website:

698 files in 59 folders, ~16MB total.

Question: Are there specs on the functional limits in the complexity
of a website authored in FP2003?

Regards,
Chris

Several things that affect file save times:
- working in a server vs. a disc based web
- making changes in a shared border or include page
- having a TOC webbot on a page (with the option to recompute the TOC when any page is saved)

For a web of your size (698 files in 59 folders), if your host supports subwebs consider breaking it up into subwebs
