Indent based on the second tab in a paragraph

I am working in Microsoft Word 2003. My paragraph looks like the following:

17.01(tab)A.(tab)The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick
brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy
dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps
over the lazy dog.

I need my text to line up or be indented after the second tab, under The.
Is there any way to do this other than inserting the text into a table?

Thank you for your help.

In Format > Paragraph (or better, the Style of this paragraph), set
the Hanging Indent (in the "Special" dropdown in the Indentation
region) to the same number as the second tab stop.

I have modified my paragraph style so the Hanging Indent is set to the same
distance (1") as my second tab stop. But, all this does is increase the size
of my first tab to that amount and indent the text to that point. I need my
paragraph to look like the following:

17.1(tab)A.(tab)The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick
brown fox
jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps
over the lazy
dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
The quick brown
fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Unfortunately, my example doesn't come out properly on this post. But, I
want the text to line up with the second tab, under the word The in the first
line.

When I tried it, it worked right -- do you actually have two tab stops
set, or were you relying on the automatic half-inch default tab
spacing? (There are Options for having a tab stop set at the hanging
indent depth, and also for changing the default away from 1/2 inch.
You want the first one unselected, and the second one is irrelevant
because you're using real tab stops rather than default ones.)
