Indent not preserved in emails

When I send emails with indent structures, the messages (when sent) show up
with no indents. Everything is justified at the left margin, just like I
never increased the indent of any text.

In one case, the first paragraph I indented was indented, and the rest
(below in the document) were all justified at the left margin.

Any ideas what is going on? I don't see anything on this when I search for
"indent" or "increase indent."

I'm in Outlook 2003 SP3. The messages I'm sending are in Rich Text format.
