Indent tasks gives correct Duration in summary task but doubles W.

I am a new Project 2003 user. Since I work against a finite number of hours
estimated into a job, I define the tasks as "Fixed Work". When I create three
tasks , enter the Work hours in each of the lower two, and then indent them
to the topmost (Summary) task, the Duration in the Sumamry Task is correct,
but the Work hours are double what I expect to see.

Hi Joe,

A couple of questions - do you have resources assigned to the summary task?
That will certainly double the work.
Have you installed SP-1? Although I don't recall this being a known issue
without SP-1, it always helps to eliminate that possibility.

The summary task will not add together the durations of the subtasks but
will add the work from the subtasks.

For example if I have two tasks that start on the same day:
- One task is 3 days duration with one resource assigned for 24 hours of
work
- The second task is 5 days duration with one resource assigned and 40
hours of work.

The summary task duration shows 5 days (the span of time from the start of
the earliest of the subtasks to the end of the latest of the subtasks) and
64 hours of work.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie
