Indenting of original text in e-mail reply?

B

Ben

Hi folks

I've had Outlook for almost a year now, it came pre-
installed as part of the Office suite with XP on my
laptop. I have been tearing my hair out for months now
trying to get it to '>' indent the text from the original
e-mail when I send a reply. I'm sure you know what I mean
but for clarity... all e-mail software I've ever used
does this:
original e-mail text starts with a greatr-than symbol.

Your response does not.

I have tried every option I can find and can't get
Outlook to do it and it's starting to drive me insane. I
always reply in plain text, not rich text or html.

If anyone can tell me where the option to make Outlook do
this is hidden I would be very grateful!

Tried using on-line help but for whatever reason all the
support pages just come up as 'page cannot be displayed'.

Thanks

Ben

In addition to what Milly said, check out Outlook- Quotefix at

Thanks both for assistance, I have got that working
now... only issue seems to be that it (of course) only
works with plain text messages and if you respond to a
message in html the reply is always in html too, and as
such it doesn't include the '>'s.

Is there a way of setting it to ALWAYS reply in plain
text irrelevant of the incoming message format?

Thanks again

Naturally. Outlook always responds using the sender's format.

With Outlook 2002 and 2003, yes. For the former, it's a registry setting
(search support.microsoft.com for "ReadAsPlain"). for 2003, it's a checkbox
on an options page (but it uses the same registry setting, so what works for
2002 will work for 2003). You can also get a third-party add-in called
"Attachment Options" (from one of the MVPs in this group) that, among other
things, implements a checkbox for it even in 2002.
