Index - how to?

I use XP Pro with all updates.
I use Office XP Pro.

I am working on a manuscript which contains many (over 150 different)
scriptural cites.

I would like to make an alphabetical index to these scripture cites and
have them linked so as to automatically update their page number. (At
this stage of my manuscript, I am constantly adding, deleting, and
moving pages.)

My manuscript is currently at 208 pages. When I clean up my formating
and text point size and styles, I expect my pages to reduce
significantly. I would like to have my index completed before I ship it
to my editor.
