Indexing & Search Not Working

Search in Outlook 2007 (on Vista Home Premium) doesn't work. No results are
returned; I get the message "Search results may be incomplete because items
are still being indexed." Clicking for more details brings up the dialog,
"Outlook is currently indexing your items. Search results may be incomplete
because items are still being indexed. NNN items remaining across all open
mailboxes." NNN stays the same or grows even after days of leaving Outlook
running. Other times, I get "The messaging interface has returned an unknown
error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook."

Options > Preferences > Search Options: All check boxes are unchecked,
including which data files to index. Checking any box & clicking OK results
in the same error: "A problem was encountered while trying to change which
data files to index. Some of these changes may not have been changed." In
fact, none of them have been or can be changed.

I've run SCANPST and repaired the PSTs, unloaded and reloaded the PSTs,
created a new profile, and restarted Outlook numerous times, to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, --Nevet
