Hi Lars
don't you just love that message
basically Project is telling you that the resource is overallocated ... ie
has too much to do on one day ... this could come from a number of reasons
....
1) you have assigned more units of the resource than you have (you've got
100% Max Availability, but you've assigned 200% to a task)
2) you have assigned the resource to more than one task on a day which makes
his working hours on that day more than his available hours on that day (ie
you've assigned him to a 5hr task and a 6hr task, on the same day, but he
only works 8hrs)
3) you've assigned him to more than one task on the same day which do not
exceed his available hours but as they are scheduled to happen at the same
time Project classes the resource as overallocated.
The message itself says to "level the resource based on a day by day
setting" ... this means to use the resource levelling tool (tools / level
resource) to reschedule his work so that he is not overallocated.
this is often a good idea BUT first, check to see where / what the problem
is - i use resource allocation view for this (view / resource allocation -
apply) and filter so that only overallocated resources are showing and then
i have a look at each one to determine what's going on.... then i SAVE then
i will use the resource levelling tool ... to see the effect of resource
levelling - use the Levelling Gantt view (oh, and have a backup copy of your
project just in case).

resource levelling in lesson 5 and 19.
