Inflated Database size but because of 2007

Rob Bunocore

We have recently upgraded to Office 2007. Many of our databases are
still in Office 2002 or 2003 format. Since we deal with many people
who don't have office 2007 yet, we have decided not to convert the
format of these mdb files.

Something that I noticed is that the size of the database grows at an
incredible rate just because you are using it in 2007. A database
that compacts down to 16 meg is suddenly at 60 meg when you open it in
2007.

Does anyone know why this happens or how I can avoid it? Also, can
anyone tell me where Compact and Repair is in Access 2007?

Thanks.

Don't worry. Be happy.

60 MB is a drop in the bucket when compared to the max MDB size of 2 GB.
Compacting and repairing isn't going to improve performance or have any other
tangible benefits.

When it bloats to 600 MB, then start to worry.
