InfoPath forms services on SharePoint

Hey everyone...

Was wondering if I could get some honest input here. My IT people
have recently upgraded our SharePoint server to 3.0. I was playing
with InfoPath and see where I can deploy forms that are browser
enabled.

So I went to publish those forms and I get a message that says it cant
publish the browser enabled forms because SharePoint isnt set up for
that. So my questions are this...

First, is the InfoPath forms services portion of SharePoint an
addition to the regular SharePoint Installation? The reason I ask
this. I have emailed my IT people that we need this feature turned
on. However, I'm confident that what i'm going to get back is that
its more money. So, I'm curious if InfoPath forms services in
SharePoint is an additionally feature of SharePoint.

My next question is about SharePoint Central Administration... I know
this is an InfoPath group but figured I'd try here first. I tried to
find the SharePoint Central Administration but I dont have it in my
administrative tools. I'm sure this is becasue I'm not on the
server. So is there a way, that I can access that as a general user.
I know this is a lot to ask of you, since you have no way of knowing
what type of network we have. Just curious if there wasa a back door
way of getting InfoPath Forms Services turned on...

Thanks in advance!!

Hey Chip.

The bad news is that SPS 3.0 does not include InfoPath Form Services. You
must have MOSS 2007 to have that.

To get to Central Admin you need to know the port it is on. It would be the
Server or Site name but then a specific port. You would also need to be given
access to it.

Good Luck.

You can still publish forms to a form library without Forms Server -
but you'll need to have InfoPath 2003/2007 installed on every persons
computer who would need to access the form. For companies that
purchased the full version of Office that includes InfoPath, you are
all set. For companies that haven't, you'll want to go with MOSS and
Forms Server.
