Infopath Newbie

Joe Blow

I've got (I think) a simple question:

Is it possible to, out of the box without using 3rd party
products, publish a web-based Infopath form.

This is to allow users who are not able to run Infopath
on their desktop (i.e., NT users) to access and write to
the form.

What are my options?

TIA

Joe,

InfoPath is designed primarilyfor use as an intranet application
where each person who fills in the form can be assumed to have the
InfoPath client (or an equivalent 3rd party client).

It isn't designed in its current version to be a general purpose Web
forms tool which allows forms to be filled in inside a Web browser.

If you allow 3rd party tools then there may be workarounds. But you
excluded that possibility in your question.

If you want to publish to the Web and want users to be able to fill in
a form, you can use various other technologies including XForms,
ASP.NET Web Forms and Adobe's XML/PDF forms.

If you care to share more about precisely what you want to do we can
attempt to offer more specific suggestions.

Andrew,

Thanks for the response. To clarify, I've been told that
to publish Infopath forms to a web site, I would need to
purchase another product, in this case Infoview.

What I want to confirm is this requirement, and what
other options there are.

Re: ASP.NET web forms, please bear with me as I'm not a
developer, can my company's developers utilize the .NET
Studio to code this?

Thanks again.

Hi Joe,
You can publish without InfoView, but in order for people without InfoPath
to open the files, you will need something like InfoView.
