Initial at end of e-mail when I don't have a sgnature?

Jeff

Hi,

Have a question about Outlook 2007 and initials showing up.
have noticed lately when I receive a response e-mail from someone I send an
e-mail to, it shows my initial at the end of the message, even though I
don't use a signature and just type in my name myself.

it looks like this

"J

Jeff" (without the quotes)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to remedy this? I looked in the signature
tab to make sure I didn't have it set up and it isn't.

Does it show up on *every* email, or just some? If you set up a hotmail
or gmail or yahoo mail account and just send a blank email, what shows up
there?

its possible the recipient is adding it when they reply.

Do you ever add a smiley?

I think your suggestion and one from Diane (who also replied) helped me
figure this out.
I set up an account in Outlook with my GMail and sent a email to my hotmail
address, which is not in Outlook, and when I went to hotmail and replied,
the initial wasn't included. Looks like it is from the receipient's end like
Diane said it may be, in her response.

I looked into this per your suggestion and also from F.H. Muffman's
suggestion and I think you are correct, it's not happening to all my
recieved replies from my original e-mail, but only from people on the same
corporate network.

Diane's comment about a smiley face is the likely thing. Outlook 2007/Word
2007 will convert a :) to a font based graphical smiley which not all mail
clients will recognize. For instance, mobile gmail will see it as, you guessed
it, a J, because the font doesn't exist on the mobile platform. That's my
bet (and Diane's too, it seems).
