Initial Office Setup problems

Dear group,

I have bought the Microsoft Sudent and Home version Office and

installed it on my machine. The software comes with following styles.

Style: Normal
and
Font: Calibri 11

I want to change this option to

Style: No Spacing
Font: Times New Roman 12

for all future documents. I tried doing that but always the new
documents do start with the original settings i.e. "Normal and
Calibri 11".

I "DO NOT WANT" to create a new template, but want to make the changes

in the original icon/installation/template for the new style i.e.

- Hide quoted text -
Times New Roman 12, and Style: No Spacing.

I tried looking for "Normal.dot" to make changes to this original
template file, but do not know where to look for this template.

Can someone please help me out.

While installing the software did not give me any option of about
default settings.

Thanks in advance

Without regard to what you might want, Office wants you to make a new
template, or simply make the changes you want to the font and paragraph
formats and then Saev As and select Template, and name the template NORMAL.
Normal.dot (which might be normal.dotx in Office 7007) will be saved with
the formatting options you want, and subsequentn New Documents will have the
defaults you prefer.

Could you please tell me in which directory Normal.dot will reside or
I should save this new template.

Thanks.

If you have Office H&S 2007 or 2010, you can easily invoke "no
spacing" by clicking on the second Style Group setting on the Home
Tab.

I started using into Office 2010 wanting the same settings as you, and
I did change the font to Times New Roman by: Home tab, Font group,
display the Font dialog box by clicking on the little arrow in the
lower right-hand corner of the Font group. You will be presented with
a dialog boxes that allow you to set the Font and the font Size. Once
you have changed to Font and Size to your preference, go to the Set as
Default choice on the bottom of that dialog box and click it. That
should fix your Font and Size for all subsequent documents.

After going to:
http://www.mousetraining.co.uk/ms-office-training-manuals.html and
downloading the FREE Intro and Advanced manuals for Word 2007 - they
are 99% compatible with Word 2010 - I changed my mind about changing
to the "No Spacing" option. But you can muck around the Paragraph
Group dialog box and change the spacing Before and After paragraphs,
setting them to zero, and clicking on the Set as Default choice, if
you are determined to have No Spacing as your default.

I strongly urge you to download and read these training manuals
mentioned above. I ordered a Word and an Excel book just before
finding out about these free manuals. The freebies are so good and
complete that I intend to return the ordered books for a refund when
they arrive.

BTW: I couldn't find the Normal.dotm template file either. Using
voidtools.com's Everything Search, I located it at
C:\Users\(MyUserName)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm,
but I couldn't get it to open.

Open a New File, make your changes, select File>Save As, and select the
Document Template format. NORMAL.DOT will be presented as the filename.

This is a very fundemental part of Office Suite that anybody should know
very well by now. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
