Insert a thumbnail into a Word document

Is it possible to insert the actual "thumbnail" of an image into a Word
document? As opposed to inserting "picture" & having to then re-size each
image to thumbnail size.

There are image editors that can create thumbnails. www.irfanview.com can do batch
thumbnails. It is a free download, get the plug-ins too.
