I presume that you are trying to use the address book in Outlook 2007? Have
you downloaded Service Pack 2 for Office 2007?

I do not have the problem here--running Word 2007 in Vista. The Insert
Address button works fine both in Labels/Envelopes control as well as when
added to the quick access toolbar.

Does it crash Word when you start Word in Safe mode? Hold down Ctrl as Word
is starting, then click Yes to starting in Safe mode.

If it works in safe mode, the usual things to try are:

1. Renaming the Data key in the registry. It's here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

2. Renaming Normal.dotm

3. Suspending any addins that might conceivaby be affecting the problem.

Thanks for the post Mr. Tyson I look at my registry and the key you listed
is not shown I even did a find /search and it is not listed ? I also tried
running Word in Safe mode and it still crashes and will not place address in
in letters/envolpes. Also it I tired turningoff /disabling addins But I
keep getting error messages saying I need addmistotors permission ? I think
I would need to go to control panel to either turn this off or on ? If you
have other advice / tips please let me know and thanks

If Word is installed on your computer, then the Data key has to be present.
However, that's moot, if starting in Safe mode doesn't solve the problem,
since starting in Safe mode temporarily accomplishes the same level of
suppression of [potentially corrupted] registry entries, user settings, and
add-ins.

If I were in your situation, the next thing I would try would be to create a
new Windows user profile, and see if using Word as that new "user" solves
the problem

OK Mr Tyson I was able to get Insert address button to work when using it in
safe mode. But will not work when runing under normal operation Terry in his
comments to another member who has a simlar problem as mine recommends
removing data key because windows will make new one. Do you think I should
do same?

Yes. Removing the Data key is one of the main ways of fixing problems in
Word. I routinely do this at least several times a month in efforts to track
down various problems. Data key corruption is very common, and the solution
is to zap it, and Word automatically creates a new one.

Well I finally give up contacted customer support at Ms and since I have not
called in before service was free thank god wow $49 or 99 or even $200+ for
help is bit much I knew there was a fix and we spent 30 minutes by using the
remote desktop/Microsoft Life Meeting. We found by removing the addins in
register it removed the problem in insert addresses button So my question
is if MS is going to offer these addins i.e. math, business contacts ect.
What make them go bad or causes them not to work?
