insert clip as object - trouble when doing it

I am using powerpoint 2000 - professional. When I insert a clip as an object
so I can use the toolbar (avi clip, usually) by 'insert/object/create from
file' I seem to be having 2 problems:
1) the clip appears as a white box with the text 'no picture' but the clip
plays when I double click on it. How to avoid this?
2) if I resize the object / clip (e.g. make it smaller) the clip size almost
invariably will be reset to its original size. How can I avoid this?

path length issue.

For #2, try using Insert/Movies and Sounds/Movie from File instead of
Insert/Object.
