How do I insert characters into a cell.
Example 523456578 to 523-45-6578 etc.
What function do I use?

Not a function.
Go to: Format>Cells
Click on the tab Number>Special
In the type there is the format you're looking for.

Not a Function, but a Custom Format.

Select cells then Format>Custom ###-##-####

If the "etc." is some other combination, you will need a different Format.
