How you "rip" a music file from your CD to your harddrive depends on your
sound editing/audio grabbing software.
Windows Media Player will rip music, but you have to watch out for DRM
(Digital Rights Management) issues, as you may not be able to play the song
in a PPT file even if you have appropriate copyright permissions. (That
said, I also have to say that I don't use WMP to rip music files, so I'm
fuzzy on the details here.)
So maybe try something like Audiograbber to rip your CD audio to either a
WAV or MP3.

If you need to edit the sound file once you have it saved as WAV or MP3, you
might try Audacity, which is often recommended in this group as a good, free
sound editor.
