Insert Object Compatibility

On my computer and on several others, all inserted objects appear as they
should. However, when viewed on a MAC as well as an IBM compatible computer,
the objects converted into a border with a red "X" or "?" inside of it?

Also, the interactive buttons inserted from the FP 2003 menu viewed
properly. However, they did not appear interactive and did not function at
all.

Sorry,

Any way to make this more stable without having to remove objects and
interactive buttons. I have to think FrontPage developed these interactive
buttons to be cross-browser freindly. As well as the "objects."
Appreciate any feedback you can provide.

PS: I read an earlier Q&A regarding frame pages not being able to "save to
favorites" yet when I test mine it seems to save to favorites just fine
(aside from needing to name all my pages).

Also it mentioned not being able to hit the "back" buttom yet when I test
mine the back button seems to work fine? Is this only if you have earlier
versions of IE or other particular browers that these problems occur with
"frame" based websites?

Last but not least, is there a way to "insert picutres from file" without
distorting where the objects are located?

You problem is you are using shape/word art
- only supported by IE
- uses absolute positioning which interferes w/ your interactive buttons

Don't use it
- just use images for the shape/word art

You are using VML graphics (WordArt, text-boxes, anything created from
the FrontPage drawing toolbar). VML graphics use absolute
positioning, which unless used correctly will cause problems in
different browsers, and different browser sizes.
VML graphics will also only work in IE5.5 and later running on Windows
PCs. Other browsers will instead render low quality down-level .gif
images or nothing at all.
Links and other objects placed in text-boxes often fail - another
reason to not use VML.

Interactive Buttons, in my experience, will work with any browser on
any platform except Netscape 4 which does not display the mouseover,
but otherwise will function correctly.

VML graphics are Internet Explorer only running on Windows.

The problem with frame pages not saving to favourites is not the
saving, but opening the page - when you click on the favourite link,
the page will open but without the frameset, resulting in a bare page
with no navigation.

Best practise is to *not* insert pictures from file. When you do this
the image is first copied to a temporary location while the page is
being edited, then saved when the page is saved. During the page
process, the image may be compressed, resulting in a loss of quality,
but you will be able to designate a folder to save the image in. This
method may also cause the link to the image to be that on your hard
disc, instead of the copy in your web.

Far easier is to import the images into the web (File->Import, then
choose a destination folder by Modifying the default folder) or by
dragging from Windows Explorer into folder view of the open FrontPage
web. Then drag the image onto the page from the folders list. This
avoids all the above compression, location and linkage problems.

revising based upon your response. One step forward, two steps back.... such

Thanks so much for your response. All you guys seem to kick butt at what you
do. I'm glad I have someone to run to. :)
