insert pages in Word at the start of an existing document?

P

Pam Teaue

I am putting together a book and need to insert pages into the front of an
exsisting word document. I also need to number the pages, but start on page 5
for example. Word reads my page 5 as page 9 and so on. I have inserted page
breaks, but that seems to make it worse. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Pam

Hi Pam,

If I understand you question, you'll need to insert a section break (either
Continuous or Next Page) at the spot where you need to restart numbering.
Then you need to separate footers so you can restart numbering after the
section break.

Open the footer (View > Header/Footer, on the menu) on the page where you
want page numbering to restart (which should be *after* the Section Break you
inserted).

With your cursor in the footer, click on the "Same As Previous" button on
the Header/Footer toolbar to disconnect the footers in the two sections (the
button will go from depressed to flat). You can disconnect headers too, but
this isn't necessary if it doesn't change anywhere in the document. The only
place where you'll probably need to do this is at the beginning of the
document, so that your header doesn't show up on the title page while still
having a footer there.

Now you can edit the footers independently. Click on the Format Page Number
button on the toolbar (the one with "#" and the little gray hand) and tell it
what number you need it to start on.

I hope this is the answer you were looking for.

Kamran.
