Insert pictures!?!

HELP!!
I seem to have a wrong setting in "Word".
When I insert a clipart or a picture into a 'Word' document, the actual
picture does not show. I can see it in the 'print review' but I only get an
"{EMBED Word.Picture.8}" or black small squares defining the area of the
picture.

I have no problem to insert into an "Excel" doc !!

Thanks for any help you can provide,
Alex

Are you inserting a box before you set the picture? Might help.

Good luck

Thank you for your reply, but most of the time, after inserting a 'clip art'
or a 'picture', a simple black line rectangular border is in fact inserted
into the document.( it is the object that I would have just inserted because
I can see it when clicking the 'Print Review' in the toolbar) As I click in
that box, small useless black boxes appear at the edges.
Up to some time ago, I used to insert easily into a document with the
familiar empty small boxes surrounding the border of the picture (the ones
used to resize, move etc)
Have I inadvertently changed a setting somewhere??
Thanks for any help you can provide,
Alex

Look at the View tab of Tools | Options. If "Picture placeholders" is
checked, uncheck it.

But it sounds as if what you're wanting is to change the wrapping on the
picture (which has nothing to do with the original question). Click on the
picture, which will display the Picture toolbar, and click on the Text
Wrapping button (dog icon). From the menu, choose any wrapping other than In
Line with Text.

and everything went back to normal.
