How do I change the background to transparent with black text when I use
Insert>New Slide?

Make sure that you have the desired formats set up in your slide master: View
Master > Slide Master. Then when you Insert > New Slide it will come up the
same each time.

If Sandys post solves the problem but it comes back when you open powerpoint
again.

Adjust the master - save as(type) design template and name it Blank

Aha! It turned out that the text box was under all of the other layers. I
discovered this when I tried to format it. It is working correctly now.
Thanks

oops, now I have lost the Click to add title text. It still shows in the
master slide. Ideas?

In master view can you see the master toolbar(6 icons and "close master
view") Click the righthand icon and check that title placeholder is tcked

All of the checkboxes in the Master Layout dialog box inlcuding the title
placeholder are checked and inactive.

Go to View > Slide Layout. Reapply the layout you're looking for - it should
come back...

That didn't work. I've check the font color on the master slide and it is
black there. We are getting closer to a solution. At least the text box is
available and no longer black. Now the only issue is "Click here to edit
title"

Sheesh! got it. I created a new master slide and it works. Then I went back
to see what the deal was with the other master slide. The text box was too
small........

End of torture. Thank you all
