Insert slides retaining format into another slide show?

Moving slides from one show to another usually picks up the background of the
slide preceding the slides I am attempting to insert. How can I insert slides
without changing the background of the original slides? Is this a "feature"
of Powerpoint?

Which version of PowerPoint are you using? PowerPoint 2002 (XP) and
PowerPoint 2003 support multiple masters. You can use them. To get somewhat
similar effect with PowerPoint 2000, look at
