Insert WMF clipart into Word2003

I try to insert clip art with file extension WMF into a Word document and
receives:
Error ! Not a valid embedded object.
The clip arts I use is the ones
supplied with Oficce 2003. I run Windows XP SP2 and Office 2003 SP1.
Anyone who have had the same experince? Any way to solve the problem?
Receives the same type of Error when I try to paste/insert CorelDraw objects
in Word documents. (The "funny" thing is that it works on my old computer
where I run W2000 and Word2003)

Make sure that you have installed the necessary graphics filter. On the Insert menu,
point to Picture, click From File, and then check the list of filters in the Files of
type box. If the filter you need is not listed, you may need to install it.

Try pasting the Corel image into Word by using the "paste special"... Corel images
paste into Word as .wmf, I suspect your filter is either missing or corrupt. Do a
detect and repair or install the wmf filter.

I'm having the same exact problem. I've pinpointed the origin of this
problem as Norton System Works + Internet Security (including Norton
Anti Virus). I've done several tests and attempts to prove my point
and I've conlcuded that these programs are causing some sort of
conflict, or they are blocking the object insertions in Word. I'm
getting the Error! Not a valid embedded object. message with any
object I try to insert into word (jpg files are not included). I
cannot use the equation editor either. I am really vexed since I
cannot eliminate the problem.
The funny thing is that the problem began after I uninstalled the
Norton programs suite (logics indicates that the problem should be
present only while norton is active but it's all the way around).

Since I had a small suspicion of Norton, I reinstalled it to see if
something could be done. As soon as I was done installing Norton the
problem with Word was gone. I believed it had uninstalled improperly
so I went ahead and uninstalled the Norton software once more. When I
tried Word again, I noticed the problem was present once more. After
that, I've tried to reinstall and do clean Norton and Office
uninstalls with no success. It seems I must live with Norton if I want
to use all of Word's options. This is not fair since I really want to
get rid of Norton for good but now I don't know what to do. Does
anyone have any solution? It's really weird. I've followed all the
instructions at Symmantec for a clean Norton removal but I'm sure
there are still hidden garbage files. What else can I do. I would like
to do a clean Office uninstall to see if that helps, but I don't know
how to. I believe my system may become crippled if I try it.

Many Norton problems can be solved by disabling "script blocking" and disabling
"Office Plug-ins" in Norton's options.

Hi Cesar,

Think you have found something. I have this problem on a brand new Dell
computer that came with Norton pre-installed. As we run McAfee here, I
uninstalled Norton like you did. Maybe we shall go after Norton instead of MS?

Yes, perhaps we should go after Symmantec since I have no idea of how
to get rid of the leftover garbage. I've carefully followed the
instructions to remove the System Works + Internet Security +
Antivirus with no success. I just wonder where is the little
problematic file located. Maybe it's some sort of tactic from
Symmantec to prevent people from stopping to use their products. ;-|~

Yes, but the funny fact is that I already uninstalled Norton. I guess
that accounts for disabled office plugins and scrpit blockings. Please
tell me if I'm wrong. It's just what I believe logical.

Hello

I am experiencing the same issue, exactly as described throughout this
thread. However, I am dealing with several hundred PCs, runnng either Windows
XP or Windows 2000, on a 2003 domain. Plus, none of my computers have
Symantec Antivirus. We do run McAfee.

One thing is certain, accounts that are local admins work just fine. Log in
as an individual who is not in the local administrators group, and the error
occurs.

If those from the thread would kindly followup and let me know what you
discovered, I would greatly apreciate it.

Very funny. My posts were resulting in an error. I wasn't sure if they were
getting through.
