When i insert a picture into a word 2002 document it will not remain there.

Can you give a bit more detail on this? Does the picture disappear entirely?
Display as an empty rectangle? Are you in Print Layout view? On the View tab
of Tools | Options, do you have "Drawings" checked and "Picture
placeholders" *not* checked?
