inserted SOUND help... pleeeeeeeeeeeease? <:)

Hi you all :)
I'm in a double-edged predicament.
EDGE#1:
I want to add a sound (it's actually a song) to my slide show, but it
appears PPT doesn't accept anything but .wav files. The file i have is in
WMP format (Windows Media Player), which has again used its darned
proprietary mind and not allowed me to save the song as a wave file. Is there
any way to convert this song to a wave format?

EDGE#2:
how in the world do i succeed at making this song play during my whole
slideshow? I've seen this done a million times on PPT stuff friends send me
in emails, but i can't figure out how to do it. I added a random test sound
to one of my slides, and it just plays on that slide. If i try to loop it, it
doesn't CONTINUE playing on the following slides, it starts OVER.

HELP?? I'm drowning in exasperation here :p

The music is probably protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management). If so, it
can't be use in powerpoint.

As for the edge #2,

Hi!Thanksforansweringsoquickly...canmy sound be protected even though i
actually recorded it? I mean, i recorded it with a microphone while it was
playing on my boombox. It saved it as an other than wave format.

What tohlz said.

You might see if the sound opens in Audacity and if you can save it as a WAV
or MP3. PPT will let you insert MP3 (except for PPT 97 -- it's too old)
files. The difference is that MP3s won't be embedded in the PPT file, but
WAV files will.

As far as I know, recorded sound are normally saved in wav format, which you
can insert into your presentation.

When you insert your sound file you have the option in Custom Animation for
that object. You can select when the file stops playing. Also, you can use
your windows sound recorder to record the wmp file, just have the sound
recorder ready to go, play your windows audio file and record it on the fly.
Edit the file once it is done by trimming in sound recorder and save as a
wave file.

Edge #1
True, PowerPoint can not embed anything except WAV files, but why does
it need to be embedded? You can link to it and have it play without the
need to convert it. I'd strongly recommend moving the sound file to the
same folder as the PPT file before 'inserting' (really linking -- sometimes
PowerPoint semantics can be misleading).

Edge #2
Follow the answer that tohlz provided.
