I need to start numbering slides at [actual] slide 6, starting as slide
number one
Any suggestions?

There is no such thing like section breaks (as in Word) in PowerPoint.
Create two presentations and link the second one to slide 5 of the first one
(using a hyperlink, which may cover the whole slide).
