Inserting a table on a slide with Picture Placeholder

Hi there, I have a layout with a text placeholder and a picture placeholder
and want to add a table but when I go "insert - table" (without any
placeholder highlighted), the picture placeholder automatically attracts the
table. Is there any way to get around this (other than inserting a picture
into the placeholder or deleting it manually).

b/t/w: Inserted tables seem to be attracted by these placeholders in this
order:
- Table placeholder
- Content placeholder
and bizarrely Picture placeholders?

Any ideas? Thanks for your help -

Also... the AutoCorrect function to disable automatic layout for inserted
objects is not there anymore - at least that used to allow for disabeling
this behaviour. Is there anything else that can disable this?

In print templates (used for reports), we need various different
placeholders per slide on offer for the users. So therefore users should be
able to decide by highlighting the placeholder where they want elements to be
inserted during the edit process.

The placeholder shape order doesn't seem to make any difference to this
automatic behaviour? I can't get the users to delete or insert dummies on
each slide whenever they work on a slide with some empty placeholders - they
can get very impatient with PowerPoint :-(
