Inserting Charts

On all our PCs (400) in total the following error message
is being displayed on inserting a chart within Powerpoint
XP

"The server application, source file, or item can't be
found, or returned an unknown error. You may need to
reinstall the server application"

Does anyone know of a fix for this???

thanks for your quick response...

I used that page earlier but it didn't do anythign for -
we don't have Norton, aren't using Ppt97 files etc.. i
regser'd Graph.exe on my own Pc but still no avail.. i
have searched the internet but found nothing.. hence the
post.. was thinking there may be a reg hack or something

We are using Office XP/SP2.. but another it section in
our business is using the same and it works for them.../

Peter,

The link says it is also a know issue with 2002/ SP2. Have you followed up
that part as well. reregistering graph does not help with XP/ SP 2.

I take it then there is little I can do since the only
workaround available for OfficeXP/SP2 is Norton related..
Microsoft have acknowledged that the issue exists so the
only thing we can do is either wait on M'soft for a
resolution or to create an officexp/sp1 image and roll
this out...??

I really don't know if there are other options. But I will chase it up and
try to find out. But it may take a while because those I can ask are in bed
right now.

Actually, our IT dept. could not fix this problem in
PP '97 as well. Anyway, try to copy and paste the chart
into PP as a picture.
As far as I know when you send PP file to a user that is
not connected to the drives you are connected and the user
tries to modify (doubleclick)-- he'll get the message AND
would not be able to modify it.
There is nothing wrong with "server application", I think
it is the 'source file' that cannot be found.

I received this advice from Cindy, the Excel MVP:

FWIW, this isn't just with NAV. Any "file management" software that's
running during Office installation can cause the problem. We see this
especially often in the German Word NG...

Best I can tell, uninstalling Office, then turning off ANYTHING that's
running in the background, be it NAV or another anti-virus software, doc
management, etc., then reinstalling sometimes fixes this.

Do you have some other anti-virus software running?
Have you tried disabling it if so?
I'd be inclined to assume that any trouble Norton can make, somebody else
can too.
