Inserting columns

My Excel 2007 spreadsheet has 3 columns and 700,000 rows.
Why is it taking MANY HOURS to insert 4 new columns between columns B
and C?

Do you have volatile formulas in some of those rows

No. I've already highlighted the 3 columns then I've done COPY/PASTE
SPECIAL/VALUES..
