Inserting field codes into PowerPoint

I have a large number of presentations to manage from different sources. I
want to embed some automation into the slides (eg file name) and into the
slide masters (eg the slide and handouts for things such as author, title,
keywords etc.)
This can be done in Word by inserting a field code from the File Propeties
information but I can't find anyway to do this in PowerPoint in either 2003
or 2007 versions

Word and PowerPoint are different animals. You are correct they are
different and what you want to do is not easy with fields because they do
not exist in PPT.

You can do this via VBA code. Do you code?

I've done a fair bit of programming in Excel and Word macros - any head start
suggestion?
