inserting images hangs PPT & Word

Hello folks,

Sorry for the cross-post, but the issue I am having affects both PowerPoint
and Word XP SP2 on Windows XP Pro SP1 with all updates and patches installed
for both the OS and Office package.

When inserting large images in either PPT or Word, these often cause the
apps to hang. Killing to program(s) then attempting to insert the image a
second time seems to work. This issue appeared about a month ago and I
cannot figure out where it has come from. Of note, the hanging problem
appears most often when the images to be inserted are viewed as thumbnails
instead of tiles or icons.

At what point does it hang? When the file dialog is trying to display
thumbnails, when you select one of them, after you've selected a file and
OK'd or ...??

How large are the images and how much time have you waited out the apparent
hang? Sometimes it just takes a
very long






time.
