As Andrew and Jezebel have pointed out, although you can use an EQ \o
(overstrike) or EQ \x (box) field to put an overbar or top border over any
font character, a better way to insert vowels with macrons is to use the
specific font glyphs intended for this purpose. They are Unicode characters
0101 (a), 0113 (e), 012B (i), 014D (o), and 016B (u). You can find these
characters in the Windows core fonts (Times New Roman, Arial, Courier New)
and many other Unicode fonts.

Does anyone know how to insert macrons in Word, eg a horizonal line above
a vowel?
