Inserting Movie Clips into PowerPoint 2002

W

W. Chartrand

I created several presentations in PowerPoint 2000 using the Microsof
ME OS. I have since upgraded to PowerPoint 2002 and to XP Professional
I now find that the movie clips do not run in my presentations nor ca
I insert them. I keep getting a message that either the file i
non-standard or that QuickTime is not installed properly. The file
are standard mpeg and the QuickTime appears to be installed correctly.

Any suggestion would be appreciated

After installing third party applications I could not insert mpeg-1 an
mpeg-2 movies into powerpoint. The solution is to change the parameter
in the windows xp registry. There are two locations that need to b
tweaked. The first is:

"My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Win
dows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI"

AviVideo mciavi.drv
CDAudio mcicda.drv
MPEGVideo mciqtz32.dll
MPEGVideo2 mciqtz32.dll
qtvideo mciqtz32.dll
Sequencer mciseq.drv
WaveAudio mciwave.drv

and the second is:

" Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Win
dows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI32"
AVIVideo mciavi32.dll
CDAudio mcicda.dll
MPEGVideo mciqtz32.dll
MPEGVideo2 mciqtz32.dll
qtvideo mciqtz32.dll
Sequencer mciseq.dll
WaveAudio mciwave.dll

also "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Win
dows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI Extension " should reflect these changes.

On a second PC the AVI movie file parameter was case sensitive t
capital letters and powerpoint crushed.
To see how the dll and drv are written open a command prompt at Window
directory and type dir mci*.* /s>mci.doc and notepad mci.doc
that would give a list of the drivers.
