"Inserting" Movies: PP2000 vs 2002?

With my PowerPoint 2000 I cannot "insert" movies into a presentation and
therefore make the presentation portable from computer to computer (this is
a real bummer since a self-running slide show of mine is supposed to be put
on a dozen machines by someone else and I don't know whether they will put
it on a C or D drive - and they don't know either).

Anyway, does PP2002 actually let folks embed (without links) MPG files?

Are you saying the links are relative rather than absolute? For example, if
I put the presentation (.pps) and the movie in the same folder, then it
doesn't matter if the actual drive is C or D or E?

Didn't know about the "IF AND ONLY IF" part

Yes, the links are relative IF AND ONLY IF the files are in the same folder
before the links is set up. Otherwise, they are absolute.
